Why Join a CSA?
When you join a CSA, you are participating in an important partnership that strengthens the livelihood of a local farmer. In this day and age, when most of the produce that you can buy in the store has been shipped thousands of miles to reach you, it's a nice change of pace to know just where your food comes from and how it was grown. By joining a CSA, you know you belong to a group of individuals who value a close connection with the land and the food that it can produce. We're proud of the food we grow and we treat each harvest with the greatest care. You'll be able to taste the difference, we promise!
Joining a CSA also means that you're supporting a local farmer who is committed to diversified farming. A diversified farm does not mono-crop, which means more overall biological diversity. The overwhelmingly huge scale of most commercial agriculture leads to a surprising lack of varietal choices when we go to the grocery store, and it also endangers the seed pool for future generations. At Round Right Farm, we are committed to growing several heirloom varieties. By keeping these less common varieties alive, we are helping to ensure that later generations will be able to have more than one choice when it comes to growing squash, tomatoes, and other favorites.
Another great reason to join a CSA is to enjoy the unique taste of each season. Where's the fun in eating something that has been picked weeks or months ago when you can have something fresh and locally-grown by people you know? There's nothing quite like the first crisp greens harvested in spring, or a fresh tomato that's still warm from the sun.
Find yourself cooking the same thing every week? Not once you join a CSA! Some of the vegetables you receive might not be ones you would consider when you're in the store, but we bet you'll come to love them if you give them a chance. We'll be there to assist you with recipes that we've tried ourselves and received from other CSA members.
Another great benefit of joining a CSA is our newsletter. Each month, you'll get stories and pictures about our adventures at the farm. It's a great way to feel connected to the farm you're supporting, even if you don't get to see much farmland in your everyday life. Though visiting our farm is, of course, the best way to stay connected to this farming project! Sign up here
